DANIEL SINGH
Founder
His grandfather, Mr. Balbir Singh, learned the business fifty years ago in the northeast region of Thailand. In the late 1970s his father, Mr. B. Singh, opened a tailoring shop in Bangkok. The shop, called New Tajmahal Tailors, became one of the most well-known tailoring businesses in the city amongst wealthy travelers and expats.
Dan has many fond memories of helping in his father’s store when he was growing up. A favorite was when a well-known Saudi Sheikh, who was a loyal customer and friend of his father’s, gave Dan a pair of precious scissors. He said he had picked up on his natural abilities and dedication to the craft. He handed Dan the scissors and told him that if used them correctly he could become one of the most sought after tailors in the world.
Dan strived to live up to this prophecy and has since put these scissors to good use. He began his training overseas with numerous visits to Savile Row. It was there that he apprenticed under the best in the industry. Upon returning to Bangkok he realized there was a serious lapse in high-quality tailoring. It was then that he vowed to reinvent the business and take what he had learned to England back home to Thailand.
Seven years ago Dan opened Damanino with the goal of providing successful Thais and expatriates with sophisticated, custom designed garments that they wouldn’t be able to find anywhere else. The heir to the dignified line of quality tailors took the business to the next level and established Damanino to be what is now, a global enterprise.
Dan travels frequently to major cities across the globe and offers private appointments for distinguished businessmen. Demand for service is high and overseas appointments tend to fill up months in advance. Customers build a personal relationship with Dan. He has a way of knowing exactly what each client needs to look his best.
