How To Still Look Great When It’s Pouring

For those of us living in Thailand, we are lucky most of the time. It’s warm and it’s dry. Thinking about your style isn’t as difficult as, say, living in England or another rainy country. But once a year the season comes for it to finally get wet in Thailand. We call it rainy season, for appropriate reasons. It’s raining almost constantly, and sporadically at that.

The other day it was raining so hard – bright lightning was striking down and the booming thunder was incredibly loud. I checked my weather app to see how long it would be raining for and guess what? It didn’t even mention that it was raining at all! In fact, it said ‘partly clear skies’. Excuse me? This is the kind of random rain we in Thailand have to deal with and it doesn’t make getting dressed in the morning any easier. If you get caught wearing your average clothing, you’re going to end up cold and looking miserable in a soaking wet suit when one of those random storms hit.

Fortunately for you, we are experts in all things suits and dressing well to make the best first impression you can. Some of the best clothing is built for the rain and these are the days you finally get to use it! A huge part of being a stylish person is being capable to dress appropriate for the situation and the weather. Let us give you some advice when it comes to looking smart and staying dry.

Tailored Trench Coat

In order to pull of that business casual look in the rain, consider getting a tailored trench coat in a neutral tone like beige or navy blue. This color and style of jacket goes with about anything you’re wearing underneath because they are generally cut a little bigger. A tailored trench coat will keep you looking appropriate in bad weather conditions and will increase the life of your suit that is not meant to be wet.

Breasted Rain Coat

A single breasted rain coat is easy to throw over whatever you have on. It’s a simple and straight-forward fashion piece that compliments a piece of outerwear or suit with similar characteristics.

Leather

There’s only a few options when it comes to what to dress your feet in during bad weather. You could just wear your typical leather shoes and know that getting them wet every once in awhile won’t completely kill them.

Rubber Covers

Though, if this just sounds like blasphemy to you, then invest in some rubber covers. You can throw these on over your favorite shoes and they will protect your shoes from any water damage. Note: These are not the best looking of suggestions but, hey, you work with what you got!

Rain Boots

Don’t laugh. There are some fashionable rain boots out there on the market today such as Bean or Hunter Boots. Wear these during your commute to work and carry your work-appropriate shoes in your bag.

Umbrella

This one may seem obvious. But there’s more to it than just what meets the eye. Don’t consider your umbrella as just a tool to protect yourself from the rain. Think of it as a fashion accessory that is an integral piece of your rainy day attire. Consider its color and shape. Make sure it looks good next to whatever you’re wearing.
